Here are some points which i think is a must for any school which is serious about providing
quality education to the children. These points cannot be seen as optional ones but instead
it should be seen as mandatory ones.
It doesnot matter if the school doesnot have all the amenities that international school has
but it need to have decent teaching staff focused on providing quality teaching.
"You can have golden cot with bed in silk and jewel embroidery, but you cant buy sleep" - Adage
1) Focus on Listening:
Children can be creative in a unbelievable way. We need to have ears to listen
to them and some times we can be taken aback when they talk about some crazy yet
interesting things which we thought were never conceived or perceived because as
we grow we tend to get adjusted to the norms and compliance and our quest of
different approaches to problem would diminish gradually.
2) Focus on Innovation:
As parents, we tend to think innovation as topic reserved for adults only. It is as much
important for the kids as it for the adults.
We need to make innovation as cultural thing rather than extra curricular.
a) How do we improve upon the existing idea that is currently in use ?
b) is there a better way we can achieve the same thing ?
Right from early age, the kid can ask itself these questions, be more inquisitor !!
3) Inculcate the values:
e.g. story telling is traditional appraoch which is still good.
do we have story telling in classroom ?
Also the focus should be on stories teaching us morals. do we have one in classrooms?
Subsequently, the staff can involve the kids to enact the characters in the stories
4) Sharing and Caring:
How are you ensuring the kids are learning about sharing and caring?
Of Course, in the group it can happen by accident but the staff needs to spend
some quality time in making this virtue to be inculcated by the child.
Various indoor and outdoor activities would definitely help in this regard.
5) Eco System and Resource Awareness :
Kids needs to be made aware about our Eco System and learn how to use resources sparingly.
a)How are ensuring the kids learn about our eco system ?
b) Not to waste essential resources like water, food, paper etc ?
c) Not to use artificial lights when not in use, not to use your vehicles
when the distance is short.
d) Make them aware of global warming.
6) Physical Fitness and personal hygine:
- Right postures
- Playing outdoor games regularly.
- keeping our bodies neat and clean always
- nails, hair etc in order
7) Food habits :
- Make them aware of junk food and good food.
- Role of Vegetables and Fruits in our diet
Next time when you are in open house meeting with your kid's teachers and school staff, please ask these questions rather than having a mundane discussions ...
